La Maison✧The House

The main part of the house dates from the 15th century and is contemporary with the Chateau of Boussac. It partially burnt down about 200 years ago - hence the new(ish) wooden beams under the section of the one guest bedroom.

The house underwent a full renovation in 2008/2009.

Several generations ago it was owned by the Mayor of St Silvain-Bas-Le-Roc where he made his home and office. When the previous owners moved in about 70 years ago they found rather valuable documents - including a letter from Napoleon 3rd written to the then mayor. All the documents they found were handed over to the local government and some were displayed in the mayor's office in St Silvain-Bas-Le-Roc.

George Sand wrote her first novel "Jeanne" whilst staying as a guest at the château, setting the novel in the surrounding area.

The house falls under the Historical monuments council and is therefore under supervision from the Batiments de France.
